The reasons why I give this book five stars is best understood simply by reading what I wrote about this subject in my own book. NOTE that I promote Douglas Del Tonto's in the book I have published. This is why Douglas Del Tonto's book is so important. . ."Those who are not Christian perhaps do not understand what most Christians believe, and therefore they make the mistake of thinking that a great number of churches in the area translates to plenty of warm people who will eagerly help them out. Nothing could be further from the truth. Most denominations of Christianity teach that a person is spiritually saved merely by having faith in Jesus Christ. They do not teach that you must do good works for salvation. If Christians were taught that they had to exert themselves and go out and do good works in order to earn a right into the Kingdom of Heaven, then—in consideration of the number of Christians in the world—the world would be changed overnight. If Christians believed that they actually had to get up and help others, and do good deeds, in order to be saved, then the homeless problem would disappear in a matter of mere hours because everybody would be rushing out to earn a ticket into heaven. But this is not what they are taught. They believe that after they declare faith in Jesus Christ, they don’t have to lift a finger, and their entry into the Kingdom of Heaven is ensured. The belief I have just stated—being saved by faith alone—comes from a convert to Christianity named Saul, who later came to be known as Paul. An early Christian sect called the Ebionites rejected the teachings of Paul, but his teachings would later to be printed in the popularly accepted canon of the New Testament, which comprises twenty-seven books. There is a growing number of Christians today who reject the teachings of Paul, and who go so far as to claim that he is nothing more than a liar who infiltrated early Christianity and falsely claimed to be an apostle. These Christians argue that faith in Jesus Christ must be accompanied by doing good deeds in order to receive salvation from God. For more information about Christians who believe that faith and good deeds are both requirements for salvation, I suggest the book Jesus' Words Only or Was Paul the Apostle Jesus Condemns in Revelation 2:2 by Douglas Del Tonto, and the website JesusWordsOnly.com In my experience I have not been impressed with Christians of any type. In my homeless travels across the United States, I was helped by more people who were expressly non-Christian, rather than believers. While it is true that some Christians did help me, and it is also true that there are shelters, soup kitchens and other aid services for the homeless that are offered by Christians, when it comes to who might help you among the general public, in all likelihood, the few who will extend a helping hand will not be Christian. Why? It is as I said: Christians do not believe they need to lift a finger to help anybody, so why should they? As for those who believe the teachings of Jesus contradict the doctrine of Paul—and who therefore believe that faith in Jesus must be accompanied by good works—I have yet to meet a single person who demonstrated that they believe in that doctrine no matter how much they preached it. I am not saying they do not exist, I just haven’t met any. While there have been people who claimed to be Christian who helped me, I do not know of any who did so because they believed doing good was necessary for spiritual salvation. In other words, their religion didn’t teach them to go out and do good, they just did good deeds because they’re good people—despite their religious affiliation. To further put things in perspective, thousands of homeless people die each year from all manner of causes. Hundreds of homeless human beings die each year in the United States from hypothermia alone. According to a 2006 report from the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, the life expectancy for a homeless person in the U.S. is 50 years, compared to the normal life expectancy of 78 years. Many homeless people die from preventable causes such as communicable diseases, heart problems, cancer, hypothermia and hate crimes. In the colder regions of the United States, the risk of death from hypothermia and frostbite is eight times that of the non-homeless. Between the years 1999 – 2005, the National Coalition for the Homeless recorded 472 violent crimes against homeless people by non-homeless people; 169 of which were murders. According to Social Solutions, there were 564,708 homeless people in the United States in the year 2015, and 15% of those people are chronically homeless as opposed to people who are merely temporarily coach-surfing, or living in a family member’s garage or basement. With these facts in mind, it should be clear to anyone that there are a whole lot of human beings who really, truly and desperately need help. Meanwhile there are literally hundreds of millions of people who call themselves Christians, who believe they are superior to their fellow man because—in their belief—they have a ticket into the Kingdom of Heaven that they have purchased for the low-low price of mere faith. They believe they don’t have to do not one good thing, and they have secured their seat in the Christ’s Kingdom. When a church van passes you by in the middle of the Arizona desert, and literally leaves you there to die, but a couple of half-drunk meth heads stop to pick you up in their dilapidated RV because they don’t have the heart—or, rather, the lack thereof—to watch you bake in the scorching sun on the side of the road, you might start changing your tune about Christianity as well. Why did the drug addicts, who most people would look down upon, decide to pull over and help me? Because, despite their downfalls, they are real human beings who have heart. I cannot say the same for the others." - How to Live in a Storage Unit or Other Place You Don't Belong by John Casper “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me food: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in. Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” – Matthew 25:35 - 40

You will be amazed at the things that are sitting there in YOUR BIBLE that you have been blind to. This book will open your eyes. Paul's movement was separate and apart from that of the Jerusalem church. Do you want to know what happened to the religion of Jesus? Look for the term "Judaizer". That's what you'll find them called throughout the ages as they are persecuted and "delivered to Satan for the destruction of the flesh" by the Christians. Why? Paul.Among my 15 or so books on the subject, this is my #1 reference book.

Should be called "YAHSHUA's Words Only". An excellent book if you have ever wondered why Paul's epistles (writings) seem to speak in a kind of double talk. He was only a man, and not one of the 12 Apostles, so we may have to decide that his writings are for edification, not for inspiration, as we accept the writings of the Old Covenant and the words of the 12 apostles before his. We are blind if we follow man (like we do Paul with what he says, especially when he contradicts what YAHSHUA says) because we must check everything told to us and be like the Bereans who were deemed righteous because they checked everything. We must study to show ourselves approved.YAHWEH and YAHSHUA are all in all, not Paul! This book is worth reading and studying!!!

While I don't agree with everything this author says, it is a great discussion to be had. We cannot as believers choose to live with our heads in the sand. We have to address controversial topics such as this head on. If you have the courage, get this book and prayerfully read through it with an open hand. For too long, we've allowed Paul to dictate our theology and church life instead of allowing our Lord and His words to do so. Excellent book!

Excellent work, This book inspired me to look closer at the scriptures with a clearer understanding how the bible is structured and written.Modern christianity is nothing but superstition and works of the vatican priesthood. Jesus has warned us about this but we did not listen!Jesus warned us that after his departure ravaging wolfes will come in and distort the truth, they will come and say there he is in the desert!Paul the benjamite a roman citizen has met jesus in the desert! giving you the gospel according to PAUL! 13th apostle and 13 books written in the new testament. Let that sink in.Highly recommened

This book is extremely needed for believers in Yeshua! There are not many voices out there that are willing to pinpoint the problem in Christianity and confront it. He brings out that the Hebrew Gospel of Matthew was the first and only book in the first Canon of the New Testament by the Ebionites 64-70 AD and they completely rejected Paul's epistles because they promoted lawlessness, rejecting the Law of Moses (Galatians 2,3,and 4). Sadly, the Ebionites' voice was snuffed out by, first, the Jerusalem Council, and the growing gentile church after the 70AD Roman destruction of Jerusalem. Unfortunately, every Canon since then has included Paul's letters. Yeshua's words, which The Father in Heaven says we are to listen to above anyone else as His Beloved Son, cannot be harmonized with Galatians! See Matthew 5:19 - also chapters 7, 12, 13, 25! Choose who you are going to follow - Yeshua or Paul!

I adore spooky stories and these are really captivating. It is amazing how they almost don't repeat thematics but are so many aspects in the supernatural in this chronicle of Japanese traditions. Some stories have a ghostly aspect, others are instead quite realistic and others are product of traditions and superstitious fears. Although the style at beginning seemed to me a bit slow it quickly grew on me.Lafcadio Hearne wrote it when Japan had just decided to be a modern country, a change made in a Japanese way, and in the care for explain the words is noticeable that he really loved to know that historic Japan that perhaps has survived in our days. There are some afterwords by interesting observations about insects, they are not related to the core theme of the book but nevertheless I found them interesting. The kindle edition has not been completely well formatted: you cannot click the notes to go to the referenced text. They are just at the end so (as this is not a physical book) as they impractical to review I just read the tales without them until I got to the very end.

The first part of this book contains a mix of 8 "strange" (as the title suggests) stories. The stories are an eclectic assortment of ghost tales and legend but all of them will most likely seem strange to the Western mind. Individually, the stories seem confusing, perhaps even without point, but take them as a whole and they begin to paint a picture. They lend the reader a strong sense of the Eastern mind. It is really, quite a lovely collection. The second part of this book, contains a collection of three "essays", if you will, on insects. In particular, a sampling of insects which hold some place within Japan's culture or customs - butterflies, mosquitos and ants are covered here. To my mind, this is an unfortunate departure from the first half of the book's legends and tales. The information will likely seem a bit dry as Lafcadio Hearn (LH) hails from a different time and to many modern minds, I would think the words of his essays may seem rambling. Nonetheless, they are interesting in and of themselves for the information within. If I were to truly pick apart the fine particulars of the two subject matters, I could surely list some fine argument here as to why they are brought together as one, but in the end, the contrast is greater than the benefit. I find they cause quite some disharmony when brought together. Two last notes for this e-book version: 1) there may be some off-putting words to the modern mind in this book's introduction, which LH had written in January of 1904, in the earliest hours of the Russo-Japanese War. For example, LH references Japanese soldiers on their war boats as "little men", etc. If you can forgive these words as those from a different time, the meat of this book will be your reward, and 2) for those that appreciate additional information, endnotes are included at the end of each tale.Lafcadio Hearn is well enough known to both Japanese and Westerners alike, and well enough respected by both for his translations of Japanese tales that it would seem almost criminal for a Western student of things Japanese, to completely ignore his works. This book and any of his compilations of Japanese ghost stories and legends are highly recommended.

Lafcadio Hearn is my favorite Western writer when it comes to the subject of Japanese legends, folk stories and other kinds of supernatural stories which you can find in Japan. This book contains stories that he heard and wrote down, all with notes about what is it, so we can know what is all about because Hearn was very diligent about describing Japanese culture the way Japanese people see it, not the way the Westerners see it.It also contains stories that Hearn witnessed himself, so we can see the way he reacts to some events which occurred in front of him or was told to him, which is, in my opinion, very interesting read, because usually Hearn just writes down what he was told and his opinion is, except the part he likes those stories and finds those supernatural events interesting, usually very professional and objective.Very good book for those who want to see Japan from a different perspective.

I first read this book in 1959 when I was stationed in Japan. I, never heard of the author but found that the Japanese were very familiar with his writings. This book is scary and memorable. I had to have it for the memories of my youth.

A charming collection of mostly supernatural Japanese tales. The charm extends to the three essays of natural history at the very end (Butterflies, Mosquitoes, and Ants), with the possible exception of the last, which has no connection whatsoever with Japan (whereas the first two emphatically do) and which does not do honor to LH's philosophical acuity (so say I).

To be clear, this review is for the March 15, 2005 edition of this book. The book is of good quality, pages are the right thickness, and the cover is beautiful. I am a firm believer than the cover of a book can indeed change how you view the stories inside that book. The stories are wonderful, and the insect studies at the end of the book are very interesting. The insect studies talk a lot about Chinese origins of stories related to them, especially butterflies. The stories themselves are great, and the way Hearn writes is very smooth and not boring. This is a book everyone should have a copy of if they are interested in short stories, or Japan. This is the kind of book you can re-read in a few months and still enjoy.

#20,246 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I'm a big fan of cryptograms so I appreciate this book, despite the errors, but I've found at least three so far (I'm on page 59 of a 94-page book) and these cannot go without being remarked upon. Two of these are errors from the book itself. Isaac (as in Isaac Newton) is misspelled as "Issac" in the solution; in another puzzle, there is a "then" where there should be a "than". The third error, curiously, seems to come from the original quote itself, which reads, "It is one thing to use text to illustrate a point one us making, but quite another to quote merely to demonstrate the excellence of one's memory." Unless I am missing something (a joke, perhaps, that I don't get), "us" in this quote should be "is". The quote is from Gore Vidal, who I wouldn't expect to have made such an error but I've searched the quote online and it turns up the same everywhere, i.e. with "us" instead of "is". But, regardless of who made the error, the "us" in this quote is misleading, so either the puzzle should have been corrected or omitted.I looked for a contact address on the website to where I can send a message pointing out these errors out but there doesn't seem to be any.

I have worked most of the books of cryptograms from AMZ, some of them twice. This one has mostly new quotes from many new people. I found it interesting and challenging. The format is nice, size and spacing good, and the paper is very nice. I would recommend this book to someone looking for a little more challange

I have been doing cryptogams for 30 years. I have purchased many books of cryptograms and have worked thousands of puzzles. This book contains 269 cryptograms--a good number. I like that there are a fairly large number of shorter more challenging cryptograms compared to other books of puzzles I have worked. Some books contain a large number of long cryptograms which are "no brainers".The letter font of the cryptoquotes is sufficiently large and so is the line spacing. Unfortunately the letter spacing is tight. Those who work cryptograms will immediately see that it is not easy to write the substitute letters above the ones in the book. The substitute letters tend to get jumbled together making it more difficult to solve the puzzle. It is especially difficult to work the puzzles on an airplane when the hand isn't steady.

There's a misprint in this book at the beginning of one of the quotes. You'll spend forever working it before you realize the word that starts the quote is actually not part of it. Finally finished the quote and determined that it had the be a misprint and sure enough, when I checked the solution in the back of the book, that entire word wasn't in the solution. Extremely frustrating to work a book with such a huge mistake in it. I sure wish this company would actually work their cryptogram books as part of the editing process to weed out such careless mistakes. This is the second book by these folks that I've worked with a mistake in it.

Entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking quotes. Medium to challenging level of difficulty to decode. Two levels of hints to assist as well as the solution.

This is the best cryptograms book I've found. The puzzles are quotes from a wide variety of people like Isaac Newton, Al Capone, Mr. T, Vincent Van Gogh, Jay Leno and Aristotle. None are preachy or full of stale husband and wife jokes. They also contain "unusual" words. For example: cobwebs, promenade, tickle, cholesterol. I like this aspect because it's harder to guess the word with only a few letters solved. The type is large enough and there's plenty of room between words and letters. My only complaint is that it isn't spiral bound. I prefer puzzle books to lie flat.

Working on it each night before bed...keeps my mind active and after a few I can drift off. The puzzles are not too easy not too difficult.I am around 30 in and have not used any hints yet... Good space to work between lines ...only drawback is that I would like to see it sold in a spiral book as it's a little more difficult doing the left side when opened...you won't be disappointed buying this book.

This doesn't do it for me, and I do a lot of cryptograms. It doesn't have that flow. A lot of very short quotes. And a lot of the quotes are like meh, dumb. And, personally, I prefer a spiral bound puzzle book, but that is hard to find. It's hard to find cryptogram books, period! So, if you are hard up, you may want to try this book.

If you feel that your child learns best by doing, this book will give you so many great ideas. Claire and Lauren have organized 52 gradable activities that incorporate fine and gross motor skills while learning key academic skills. The book is divided into 7 units, Language Arts, Math, Science, social studies, art, music, and Geography. The sensory enriched ideas provide a multimodal method to develop a solid foundation in each of these areas. As an occupational therapist, I have done some of the activities in this book. BUT, on each page, there is a little box titled "Maximize the sensory experience" This little box is great as it has helped me to find new ways to slightly alter the activities to make it even more enriched for my students.I'm glad I heard about this book sooner than later! I recommended it to parent with little ones at home who like to explore, teachers who are looking to incorporate sensory rich experiences into their lessons, and therapists who want to incorporate more sensory activities into the small spaces they have to work! (See page 124 when you get your book!)

Just received my book in the mail today and I've already earmarked at least 10 activities we'll be doing in our upcoming kids fitness classes!!! These are so creative and incorporate play, purposeful movement, and ideas for expanding the activities. Teachers, educators, therapists, anyone with kids.... you need this book. Today.

This book is amazing. As a teacher, I really appreciated the fact that I could implement all of the activities with just a little preparation. There were so many great ideas to get kids moving and learning, and lots of things I hadn't thought about before in relation to kids' vestibular and proprioceptive systems. It's a great book and I highly recommend it if you are a teacher or a parent looking to change things up for the better!

There are so many wonderful ideas in this book, and most of them can be done with materials we already have at home. It’s a great resource when my brain is too tired to come up with new activities, or when I need to be inspired to play with my kids. The photos are beautiful, and I learned a lot about how physical play aids child development.

We have been using this book for a couple of months now. I do like it a lot and it has some very creative ways to help children learn using their whole bodies. I don't like how many materials are required to do some of the activities so we have had to modify a lot of them to be less wasteful. Still great ideas and I would recommend.

I am a speech pathologist and an ESL teacher. I am a proponent of using whole-body movements and music to reinforce cognitive skills and language development as supported by current research. This is a wonderful book - full of resources for different subject areas (math, language arts, music, etc.) and ways to adapt the activity to maximize sensory input which is especially perfect for children with sensory processing disorders, ADHD, autism, etc. The authors have thoughtfully made the activities low cost (perfect for those of us on a budget!) and quick to assemble. If you are looking for more ideas or want to follow these authors, be sure to check out their website: "The Inspired Treehouse". You won't be disappointed! Highly recommend!

This book will be very useful. The activiy/Lab instructions are concise and easily followed and the numerous ways to maximize the experience and other ways to play are great. Love the photos, too!

I just got this book yesterday and it wasn't what I expected but I love it. I immediately thought of a first grade class that needs lots of sensory motor activities. I shared it with that teacher and with the principal - both were very excited about it. As an OT, this book really makes it easy to incorporate sensory and movement into the academic piece!

Since I got my Commodore 64 in 2015 I was planning to develop a simple game for it, just to learn assembly for 6502/6510. I downloaded some modern tools and some books, studied a bit, but the challenge seemed too big. This small book however changed everything, with a simple but effective approach, using libraries and the powerful CBM Studio as a familiar development IDE, Derek guides us over the development of a couple of micro-games (space shooter and platformer). It managed to take me off the inercia of starting from scratch, I'm already using one of the examples as the base of my projectImportant Note: The book assumes you know the basics of Assembly (in particular for 6502) so I recommend look online for some resources before reading it.

I thought it was a book about Assembly programming. Indeed it is, but it's using a library and don't explain in detail how to program the bare machine with pure assembly. I know many people could say: 'hey! It's 2018, nobody programs in assembly language directly', but this is the main theme in commodore 64. I prefer rather the Commodore 64's user manual, sorry author.

I've already read half the book, can't put it down! I always wanted to get into C64 assembly as a kid, but moved on to the Amiga and never really had the chance back then. Now I'm making up for lost time and having fun. I hope the author write many more retro coding books, it's much appreciated.

The book title should be: "Retro Game Dev on Windows". The book is specific to the Windows application (cross-compiler) "CBM .prg Studio". As a Linux user, that makes this book basically useless to me. I will try to run that software using Wine, but if that doesn't work, I pretty much wasted my money. Too bad really, because it looks like a good guide, if maybe a little too concise.I offer 2/5 stars because I genuinely appreciate someone writing new material on retro programming, and had I been able to use it, it would have been good value. It is well written and not overly boring, which is saying something because ANY text on Assembly Language is overly boring.

If you are interested in writing a C64 game, this is the book to buy. The author's code is the cleanest assembly code and maybe the cleanest code I've ever seen. The book's explanations are rather brief, so you absolutely need to look at the code. It also helps to have the very old book Mapping the Commodore 64, but you can find copies online easily.

Was a very cool book that got my juices flowing to try and develop some games for my old C64/128. Sad that he will not be having a follow-up book but I am glad he took the time and effort to make this book. Worth every penny

This is the kind of book I have been looking for and it's Awesome! Derek does a great job going though process and getting you started using tool and important steps of getting the sample games in book up and running. Look forward to seeing more from Derek in the future. If you ever wanted wanted to make an old school game on your Commodore 64 this book is for you.

Book is a great introduction to C64 game making and the process behind it. Great value. Hope to hear more from the author.

The Reckoning of Noah Shaw 1 MY TRAGIC HEROINE THE DAY STELLA JUMPED, THE day Mara left, her grandmother turned up in a white dress and a black car and told me to get in if I wanted to save her. She looks so much like Mara. Or rather, she looks like someone Mara’ll look like someday, a living, breathing perversion of her. The shadow of laughter behind her eyes when something amuses her but she won’t share. When Mara closes her eyes to search for just the right word, she closes hers as well. The shape of Mara’s mouth when she’s hiding a secret behind her lips is the shape her grandmother’s takes, too. The first thing I asked her wasn’t how she was alive or why, but— “What shall I call you?” She sits beside me, looking straight ahead, but I see her smile in profile. “I told you my name.” “I can’t call you . . .” “Mara?” She finishes for me. “Why not?” Because her name sticks in my throat. Because the sound of it might kill me. “It was my name first,” she says. Her voice snaps me back to attention, to this moment, facing this not-Mara beside me. “Fine,” I say. “Your family name, then.” “Which one?” Her eyes are quick, laughing. “If you don’t give me a name, I’ll choose one for you myself,” I say. She arches an eyebrow. “Go on, then.” My thoughts are furred, though, and even as I try and think the name Mara, I’m hardly able to get past the first letter. “M,” I say. One of her hands reaches for the collar of her white silk dress. She rubs the fabric with her thumb and studies me. “Good choice,” she says eventually. Her stare is bold, unflinching, and as the silence stretches between us, I feel more exposed, more raw. “Why are you here?” She blinks, once. “I told you. I need your help.” A matter of life and death, she said. Someone we both love. “Right. That got me in the car,” I concede. “But I’ll need more if you want me to stay.” She watches me, unnaturally still and calm. “You have questions.” “You have no idea.” That cryptic, smug smile again. “I have some idea.” It helps, her smiling like that. It’s harder to be awed by someone so irritating. “Your family thinks you’re dead,” I say. “Yes.” “Mara saw it.” Not strictly true, but it catches M’s attention. “What did she say?” I reach back through the door in my mind, the one I closed on Mara minutes or hours ago, God knows which, wincing in anticipation of the memory of her voice, and hear— Nothing. Silence. M waits. This is what I remember instead: my father’s ghastly Florida mansion. An unused sitting room with furniture draped in drop cloths. Mara’s tentative, shaking hands lifting a soft, crude little doll between two pinched fingers, then tossing it forcefully into a fire. The smell of burning hair. The curl of singed paper. That was what we thought was left of Mara’s grandmother—that doll, the pendant sewn inside of it, and the ashes of her suicide note. The note Mara saw—remembered—M writing. I look at her grandmother now and consider, not for the first time, that I might be well and truly mad. Maybe something broke in me the moment Mara left. Maybe it broke before. It’s a strange and unfamiliar sensation, not knowing whether to trust your own mind. Not knowing if your own senses are betraying you. I never quite got what it was like for Mara, when we met. Never quite understood why she’d wanted me to keep that journal, writing about her, for her, when she thought she was losing her mind. Losing herself. I’m beginning to get it now. M watches me expectantly, head tilted, a fall of black hair curling on her left shoulder. “Mara said you killed yourself when she was three days old,” I manage to say. “That is what her mother believes, and so that is what she was told.” Told? “No. Mara saw you. She remembered—” Everything. Mara remembered everything, and she recounted it in extraordinary detail. The scents of the village her grandmother had lived in as a girl. The hushed voice of an older girl sitting beside her, sewing her a friend. My own memory of that day plays like a silent film in my mind; Mara desperate for answers, Mara desperate for my help. Mara’s face open and earnest and trusting— The memory stings, and I shy away from it. “Did you come back?” I ask stupidly, filling the silence to drown out my thoughts. “From . . . ?” “Did you die?” “Not yet.” A start. “How old are you, then?” “How old do I look?” she asks, amused. Mara and I did the maths once, back when I’d found a photograph of my mother at Cambridge, with M standing beside her. My mother couldn’t have been more than twenty-one, twenty-two perhaps. The woman sitting beside me looks exactly the same. “I don’t know,” I say casually. “Thirties, I suppose?” She tips her head, acknowledging. “Thirty-six.” “How long have you been thirty-six?” “A while.” She grins, light and teasing. “Cute,” I say. The car hits a pothole, reminding me that we’re being driven somewhere. Which begs the question— “Where are we going?” I glance out the window, but all I see is city, still, and traffic. M doesn’t answer right away. When I turn around, her expression’s shifted again, into something blank and unreadable. And then she says, “Home.”

*spoilers for The Becoming Of Noah Shaw*I’m going to cut to the chase here; I really wish that we had never gotten this continuation to Noah and Mara’s story. In so many ways I feel like it has ruined what made that original trilogy great. And while I’ll forever love Noah and Mara because of that original trilogy, both of them have been a bit tainted by these new books and I’m forever going to be sad over it.Look here’s the thing. Absolutely nothing happens in this book. Literally Noah and Goose just wander around getting drunk and what not and then every now and then there’s an info dump. I think we were supposed to believe they were being led places by other forces, but to the reader it was just a lot of Noah and Goose doing random crap and its tedious. There’s minimal plot if any and I never know what’s going on. And not in the good way from the first trilogy, I’m just annoyed and confused a lot. Also the fact that Noah and Mara had to break up at the end of the first book still annoys me. It didn’t need to happen and I think this book is weaker because Mara is so absent. Like why is she even on the cover?!?! She’s barely a part of this, other than Noah’s pining and then being mad at her. And then that damn ending. A whole book and nothing happens and then the last few pages throw in this ridiculous twist that somehow made me angrier than Noah and Mara’s breakup at the end of the first book. I’m already dreading how it’s going to play out in the next book. Which, yes I’ll read, because I’ve come this far and at this point I’m hoping and praying the last book will fix all this nonsense that was done to one of my favorite couples. One thing I did like though was getting to see some of The Retribution Of Mara Dyer from Noah’s point of view. He was gone for so much of that book and I’ve always wondered what he was up to, so I very much enjoyed that piece of the book and it made me wish that instead of this trilogy we had gotten a Noah POV book from the original trilogy instead. And even though I’m annoyed with him right now, I do still love Noah and I hope he comes around and I hope Mara shows up soon and puts an end to this nonsense going on. Cause really, if Mara was around right now things would be going a lot differently and Noah wouldn’t have been herded so easily. All in all, The Reckoning Of Noah Shaw and I have some real issues. I just really wish we had left that first fantastic trilogy alone. It had such a good ending and was such a ride and now I’m just perpetually sad.

I was going to buy this at Barnes and Nobles for close to $20!! Getting it here for $13 was such a deal! I got it as a gift for my boyfriend's sister and she loved it. It was brand new, crisp, and has that new book smell. Loved it (and she says the story itself is super good so far and she recommends it)

I loved it. And now I have a massive book hangover. There's a cliff hanger that gutted me - even if I sorta saw it coming. Ugh book twos are so painful!

Honestly just need this series to be over so i can stop being curious. Nothing will ever beat the original series

best book yet!

Great book

*A LITTLE SPOILERY FOR BOOK FOUR*I'm giving this one three because in theory, i hated this one less than the last one. Hate could be a strong word. It was very frustrating reading this book as well as book four, guessing everything that would happen. So many old school tropes were used that it was the worst kind of flashback to my high school days. I literally guessed every single beat, and i hate that. The characters motivations make literally no sense to me. I've heard the author state a million times that she made Noah specifically to be someone who would love Mara for who she was, and when he finally understands who she is, he breaks up with her. Then i have to spend this whole book listening to him pine, and Mara is in it for like a page at the end (not including flashbacks). I wanted more than anything to love this book. the first three meant so much to me when i was a teenager. But it's like Mara is acting the way she was just because the plot needed it, and it was like who she was didnt matter anymore, because this thing NEEDED to happen in the story. So now i get a second trilogy with these characters i deeply love, none of them acting like themselves or even together. She made Mara a heartless monster because of PLOT, and she made Noah have a problem with it because of PLOT. I dont see why this story needed to be told. It could have been so much fun, having these sarcastic and broken kids fighting together against something. Instead, there's all this forced angst when we already had three books of angst. This series should have grown with the characters--let the characters grow--and grew with it's readers, who are made up of a lot of teens who are now adults. it's not giving anyone an arc, and there's so little plot to this book. I wish if the author just wanted to keep playing with these characters, she would have found a better way to do it. like one where they act like themselves or are, ya know, even in the same room once in a while.

#196,481 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This is definitely the weakest of Chelsea Handler's books currently released books, and it's also a bit different. There aren't many tales of Chelsea's sexual exploits. Instead, UGANDA BE KIDDING ME is comprised of tales of Chelsea's traveling "adventures," starting with her safari trips in Africa (hence the title). Unfortunately, most of the tales, while amusing, weren't really that funny to me. She demonstrates how clueless she is and some stupid predicaments she gets into the more privileged she gets. Instead of cheering her on (like in the previous novels), I wanted to tell her to grow up. Sadly, I don't think I laughed out loud at Chelsea's musings once (unlike her friend Heather McDonald's latest). Ironically, I *did* LOL at her friend "Schmitney Schummings'" observations about Chelsea in UGANDA.If you're a big Chelsea Handler fan, it's worth a read, but if not, this isn't the book to start with.P.S. I'd also like to point out that the publisher, Grand Central Publishing, has some pretty crappy editors on staff. I noticed lots of typos, double (repeated) paragraphs, etc. in the hardcover 1st edition. This is your best work? Seriously? Uganda be kidding me.

This book is essentially a smattering of random life events with about half the book themed with travel. I found her honesty about herself and her friends and family really refreshing because honestly, as crazy as she may seem, she has a level of awareness that is strangely refreshing. What I found interesting is that maybe the anecdotal parts of the stories were embellished or exaggerated for effect, but ironically often in a way that would make her appear worse or more at fault for her transgressions. I mention this because there were differences from these stories in the book to on her standup special and in interviews. Chelsea Handler has a way of allowing you into her mind and her thought process which again is pretty ironic when compared to her stories of being such a liar as a child and even now. Ultimately it was interesting reading about a fairly eccentric person who is obviously trying to do more for herself and seems to have a very generous spirit and nostalgic and kind heart. Her sharp and biting remarks or sarcastic quips are a stark comparison to her extreme closeness with her friends and strong emotional ties with her sister. If it sounds as though I'm reviewing the author and not the book, that's because in this case I think they're synonymous. You really get a glimpse into how a very unique person's mind works.

Let me start by saying that I am a huge Chelsea Handler fan, and have been for years. I bought this book with excitement, and I was not disappointed. Her style is raw and funny, and she doesn't mince words. I usually take three or so weeks (reading in the evenings for a short time) to read a book, I'm pretty sure this was completely finished in three days. Her travels to Africa make a great backdrop for her shenanigans, and it was interesting to get to know a bit more about her real life friends. I hope she will come out with another book soon.

I love, love, love Chelsea as a person. But some of the stories are a bit contrived and unbelievable. Despite her self depreciating humor it is obvious that she is not an idiot. I also just didn't find myself laughing at much of this book. It was also a bit weird that this book was 90% Africa vacations and 10% other traveling. It just seemed disjointed. The writing is weak, but I do think that is because Chelsea actually writes her books, so I'll give her props for that. If not, she needs to fire her ghost writer because dang, it's bad.My biggest pet peeve is the editing. There were unforgivable mistakes. For example, there are two paragraphs in a row that are the same. Just a read-through should have caught that -- no editing skills would be needed! I have worked in publishing and I get that mistakes slip through. But there were so many horrible ones that I found it distracting.

The least interesting of Chelsea’s books. Quite honestly I found myself bored. Her sense of humor has gotten a little stale and it’s kind of sad to see a woman her age acting so foolishly and be so proud of it. If you’re looking to capture the magic of her early books you’ll be disappointed.

Chelsea wrote another funny book that focuses on her travels around the world. Her stories are hit and miss in that some of them are hilarious, while others are just mildly entertaining. I bought a copy of the first printing and there were major editing errors. One of the most notable was two identical paragraphs right next to each other and then of course several spelling errors and other common things that should have been spotted. I would hope that in the later editions these have been corrected.

She is hilarious! Great summertime/vacation read. I liked a couple of her other books better, (My Horizontal Life and Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea) but this one was funny too, especially if you like to travel. I honestly think her books are funnier than she is in person, because they explain some of the expressions she gets on her face etc.

I've read some of her other books while on vacation relaxing pool side and they were pretty funny. This particular book was good up until half way. I thought this book was going to be more about her trip to Africa, since I've never been I thought it would be interesting. She really only talks about her trip for half of the book. It's her usual story about dragging her friends on a trip, them getting drunk, making fun of each other and trying to get laid. If you've read any of her other books then you've pretty much read this one too just add some wild animals.
